As you will be aware the annual walling competition at Penrith Show will not be happening this year.

However, George Allonby has come up with an idea! George is, as you know, very involved with the Show and will be president next year.

We must all be getting very frustrated at not being able to meet together yet and do what we do best. So as a token branch event, we are proposing a virtual walling competition. This will be part of Penrith Show’s own initiative for virtual competitions to be held, mainly in the animal and craft sections.

There will be one Open Class in this walling competition.

Entrants will need to build their own socially distanced 2 metre length of wall, at least 42” in height, including cams.

The wall must be built in Cumbria.

Entrants will need to take at least three photographs : the foundations and laid out site; at throughstone level; and the finished wall. One photo should include the waller as well. A piece of paper with the words “JULY 2020” should also be visible in one photo, to prove (as if there’d be any cheating!) that the wall was built in July this year!

The photos should be sent via email to Alison at the office. ( George will be the judge and will, if necessary, visit a shortlist of walls before the final decisions are taken.

There will be four prizes:
1st   £100.00 (Donated by Cumbria Branch)
2nd  £  75.00 (Donated by George Allonby)
3rd   £  50.00 (Donated by Brougham Lodge)
Cumbria Branch Chairman’s Prize (£20.00) for the best cams!

2nd £ 75.00

3rd £ 50.00
Cumbria Branch Chairman’s Prize (£20.00
) for the best cams!

The Branch will pay Penrith Show a fee of £5.00 for every entrant; as you will appreciate the Show is facing a severe cash shortfall this year.

Your wall needs to be completed, and photographs submitted by 15 July and does not have to be completed in a day!

Your entry form (below) should be sent to Chris at
